Executioner

“Mercy is for priests. I bring only the Emperor’s justice.”

– Gerhard Kessler, Imperial Executioner of Nuln

Executioners are grim figures, tasked with carrying out sentences of death or mutilation on behalf of their lords or cities. Feared and shunned, they walk the line between justice and cruelty. Many wear hoods or masks to hide their identity from vengeful kin of the condemned. In Tilea and Estalia, they may be flamboyant showmen, turning an execution into a spectacle, while in the Empire or Bretonnia, they are dour, professional servants of the law.

Some Executioners are respected as agents of divine justice, while others are whispered to be little more than state-sanctioned killers. Wherever law, vengeance, or fear rules, there too will be an executioner with a sharp blade, waiting to carry out the final judgment.
